6 Divorce Tips to Help Your Divorce Proceed As Smoothly As Possible (Pt. 1)
In light of our recent blog series on the Don’ts of Divorce, we thought it would be a good time to review some of the Do’s of divorce by pointing out some specific tips that can help you resolve your divorce case as smoothly as possible.
While not all of the divorce tips that we will discuss in this three-part blog series may apply to you and your divorce case, for specific and professional advice regarding your divorce, contact the Las Vegas divorce attorneys at the RIGHT Lawyers today. We are committed to doing what it takes to help you obtain the best possible resolutions to all of your family law issues.
Tip 1 – When possible, try to cooperate and communicate with your ex.
Proceeding with a divorce can mean that some things in your marriage with your ex went very wrong, such as your communication with each other. Regardless of whether communication may have been an issue in your marriage, making a concentrated effort to not make this an issue in your divorce can be key to helping your divorce proceed as smoothly as possible.
Some of the important things to communicate with your ex about can include (but are not necessarily limited to):
- Any issues or planning regarding the marital home or other marital assets
- Any matters related to the marital debt
- Any issues related to custody of the involved child(ren) – For instance, be sure to inform your ex if you’re going to be going out of town with your children, if relatives will be watching your children at some point, etc.
If following this divorce tip, however, is not possible (because, for instance, the divorce is quite heated or allegations of domestic violence have arisen), then make sure all necessary communication and cooperation with your ex goes through your lawyers (so that there is at least one viable open line of communication between you and your ex).
Tip 2 – Know your options regarding various issues and aspects of the divorce.
Just as divorce is not the only option for ending your marriage, if you choose to proceed with your divorce, you will have a lot of different options within this process.
From figuring out whether you want to request (or fight requests for) spousal maintenance to matters related to pre-nuptial agreements and child custody, there are a myriad of options that you have as you move forward with your divorce, and being aware of your options can help you select the best one for you, your children and your future.
We will point out some more helpful divorce tips in the second and third parts of this blog series that will be published in the near future – be sure to look for them!
