Kogod Spousal Support Calculator

There is NO formula for spousal support (also known as alimony) in Nevada.  Spousal Support is NOT a percentage of a spouse’s income.   Spousal Support is NOT ordered just because one spouse makes more income than another spouse.

In the case of  Kogod v. Cioffi-Kogod the Nevada Supreme Court explained that a alimony could be awarded if there is a financial need,  if one spouse has suffered a financial loss related to thier career, or if their lifestyle during the marriage would be drastically changed after the marriage.

The calculator below focuses on the finanical need claim.  Monthly alimony amount can be based on one spouse’s financial need and the other spouse’s ability to pay.  Use the worksheet below to calculate one spouse’s monthly need and the other spouse’s ability to pay this monthly need.

Enter monthly income, monthly tax deductions, and monthly bills.  These amounts should be fairly accurate and based on what each spouse’s income and bills will  be like after the divorce. The worksheet will then calculate a net income for each spouse.  The worksheet will then highlight if a spouse has a need and if the other spouse has the ability to a pay.
